This morning copied my database and files from my production server (4.3.7), installed it on localhost and then upgraded to 4.4.0. It was mostly working. I was testing some new skins that required 4.4.0 and I had also been told that one of my two GoogleBot issues had been fixed in 4.4.0. I was thinking that 4.4.0 was working well enough that I might be able to upgrade the production server after a few days of working with it.

While I was in the Host Settings I noticed that an Upgrade was available, so I checked. Sure enough 4.4.1 was available. I said what the heck, I'll upgraded localhost to 4.4.1 and finish my testing with it. Shortly several strange things were happening while using the stock DNN skins:

  • My Home page became "center aligned" when I was logged out and "left aligned" when logged.
  • My "Contact Us" page had text from the HTML module appearing above the module.
  • I deleted the page and tried recreating it. When I pasted in the whole page into the FCKeditor and tried to save it I got a stack overflow error. When I canceled I got the error also. I tried again 1/3 of the page at a time. To my syrpirse, it worked. Now some of the contents were outside of the module again.

I haven't messed while any of the compression or whitespace Host Settings. They appear to be off in the host settings, so I assume that this isn't a cache, compression or white space issue.  I didn't have any of these problems with 4.4.0. A reboot didn't help at all either.

Any ideas other then keeping the production server at 4.3.7 a little longer,

/DaveS
