So last night I finally decided to upgrade from DNN 4.3.5 to 4.4.1.  That upgrade went smooth as can be.  No problems!

Next I start to upgrade the modules that I use frequently.  The first was the Help module.  That upgrade went smooth as can be.  No problems!

Next module to upgrade was the Announcements module.  BAM!  Site broken!  Accessing the site's home page, even from the server console, all I get is "An error has occurred."

Of course I can't get into the site to check the log.  If I have to, I'll copy the site over to a development machine and try to troubleshoot it via Visual Studio.  But I don't have time for that.  I'm hoping someone here can help!

Here is what I get from the NT Event Viewer:

Event Type:    Error
Event Source:    Microsoft (R) Visual Basic Compiler

only a dead site is a good site

pleas check the eventlog table in the DNN database for the associated entry, so we can get a clue, what has happened.

This is the first of seven exceptions.  Let me know if I should post something else.

this one does refer to a skin issue, are there other errors referring to the latest installed module?

After digging around the EventLog table some more, I've identified the three unique exceptions that are occurring.  None of them state anything specific about the Announcements module.  However, all of them are trying to load the main page, which contains the Announcements module.  And everything worked until I updated the Announcements module.

I'm considering rolling back to the backup I took before upgrading to 4.4.  But I'd still love a solution to this issue.
