Any news on this problem?  I have a client who is having nearly the exact same error:
The main page just says:  "An error has occurred"
After updating a module (dif module, not announcments, but same problem).
No other changes, just a simple module update... Never seen this before.  I'm assuming it might have something to do with the new caching/performance enhancements in DNN 4.4.1?

As soon as the module was updated using Module Definitions > Install New Module, the site broke, and nothing, but the same error in the EventLog, over and over:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
   at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e)
   at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e)
   at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e)
   at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e)
   at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer)
   at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---

This client is so upset that they are abandoning DNN altogether... tough break for DNN...

Any thoughts?

Nope.  No news at all.  I'm not an ASP.NET developer.  I can't fix these issues myself.  And no one from the DNN community has a solution.

At least the basic functionality of our site works.  I can hide the pages/modules that don't work.  There is a lot more I'd like to do with our site.  But every time I try something new, my site breaks.

The client must be pretty inexperienced with software to act like that.  DNN's grass is greener on this topic than many, many, many vendors.

This thread just got started today.  Show some patience!  The people answering are volunteers. :)

This might or might not help out.  It's from a boo-boo in the install package, but it might apply.  There might be some missing DLLs in the upgrade process too.

That would explain it, if the BoradcastPollingCachingProvider is missing... Are you serious?  Yes, I just checked both the install and upgrade packages and they are missing... I can't believe it.  That seems like a pretty serious miss to me...  Shouldn't the packages on SourceForge be updated to include the missing DLLs???

As for the client who decided to "abandon DNN".. it was their choice.  They were new to using DNN, and just wanted to try it out because of rave reviews.  They are not software developers, only end users... I've tried to explain how the DNN community is usually very rapid with helping alleviate problems, but they decided against DNN in the end.  I guess it really only takes one bad experience to sway some people.

Oh well.
