You are probably confused. There's only SQL 2000 and SQL 2005. This is a thread about MySQL.

Now onto the question... There are no MySQL Data Providers for DNN versions 3 and higher.

I could be confused as I confuse easily. However as I understand SQLExpress is a version of SQL 2005 that Microsoft puts out (Nov 2005) that is free for one year. It is a companion to VB.Net Express (also free). It is supposed to be fully compatible with SQL , but I am doubtful.

I am very impressed with DNN, but I cannot afford the full version of SQL 2005 and I had hoped I could use SQLExpress, but I continue to get an error message Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

Nick,

You wrote SQL 2k3 SP4... That's why I needed clarification. There's no SQL 2003!!!

DNN can be installed with any version of SQL 2000 and SQL 2005, including the scaled down editions (MSDE and Express, respectively). Please refer to the documentation on how to install DNN. The documentation is another zip available from downloads here at DNN.com

Whoops, yes SQL Server 2000 SP4.  I know this thread is regarding mySQL but this was the only thing that I could find that was somewhat related to my error.
