I'm a DNN n00b, so please don't flame me if this is common knowledge...

I've added the What's New module to the home page of my DNN 4.03.05 site.  I was hoping I could stick it on the home page and it would be a list of all new content across all modules on my site.  That way I don't have to maintain an announcements module every single time I post a blog entry, add an article, add an FAQ item, etc.  What I've noticed is that new pages that are added seem to appear on the What's New page, but simply adding a blog entry doesn't seem to make it into the What's New listings.  Is there something I've done wrong, or is this expected behavior?  If it's expected behavior, could someone explain why and/or offer suggestions on a third party module that will show all new content in one module/container?  What I think that would be ideal is to have the What's New module support the ability to include/exclude specific modules for what it should display information on.  That way if one added a forum module, you could exclude it from listing content, but still list content from all other modules.

Thanks much.

Shawn

Anyone have any ideas on this?  Does anyone actually use the What's New module, or do people just create an RSS aggregate of feeds from various modules?

AFAIK the What's new module is not capable of going as granular as you desire.  It doesn't know the ins and outs of the blog module and doesn't recognize when a new blog posting was made.

If you want to include that type of information you might want to rely on RSS feeds or another source of information.

Welcome aboard Shawn - I haven't seen any flaming in the time I've been here, just lots of helpful people!
I use the "What's New" module and my understanding is that it shows items from any module where you have the "Allow DNN Search" option switched on in its settings page. I had to switch this off in the Events module as there seems to be a bug whereby an item appears several times in the "what's new" to the exclusion of other things. Also I don't think all standard DNN modules support the "Enable DNN Search" option - but I could be wrong. Hope this helps.
Cheers, John

John is right, the What's New module is querying the search index for its results.  I agree, that there is a need to specify, which modules shall be included in the search index.
