I know that DNN 3.1.1 has been shelved but i have an issue. And was hoping anyone may have thoughts on how to fix this.

I have a client who's 3.1.1 website suddenly no longer permits usage of editing text via the Rich Text Editor. Only the Basic Text Box works and allows to make edits. The Rich Text Editor only brings up html of a word document and looks very confusing to try to edit.

REMEDIES? or Ways to Fix?

1)What are some things i could try to repair to the existing installation before upgrading?...
2) Will upgrading the existing defective installation to 4.X fix the problem?

Please advise

Thanks

I had the same problem on a 3.1.x site. It is caused by an incompatibility between IE7 and earlier versions of the FTB rich text editor.  If you try IE6, Firefox, etc. you should see the rich text editor again.  You have several options:

1. Use a browser other than IE7 when editing the site.
2. Replace FTB with a different html editor provider such as FCKEditor.  I believe that this is going to become the new default provider in DNN 4.5 when released.
3. Upgrade the site to at least DNN 3.3.7 which whould also replace the older FTB editor.

As I'm planning to upgrade my 3.1.x site soon anyway to 4.5 (after rewriting a complex custom module) I'm simply using Firefox when editing the site for now.

I resolved this same issue on 3.1.1 by upgrading to 3.2.2.
