I have issues sending out mail in my DNN 4.4.1. I don't know if i installed it wrongly, but emails just do not send out. I have configured my smtp server settings accordingly as my hosting provider requires basic authentication.

However i realised that even after basic authentication is selected, somehow when i click test email, the email sents out regardless of what my smtp user/password is. From what i understand, my hosting company allows unauthenticated mail sending if it is within the same domain. eg. if my domain was abc.com, hi@abc.com can send to bye@abc.com but cannot send to sad@hotmail.com.

If i were to do that the mail will still send out but it will bounce back.

My guess is that even though i enabled basic authentication in DNN, it attempts to send out using unathenticated mode before it sends out using basic authentication. If it works this way mail sending will not work under my hosting provider.

I checked with my hosting provider and they have the same problems too. Apparently authentication doesn't work in 4.4.1. Is it a bug?
