Hi,

I've setup a site using DNN4. Unfortunatly I no way google seems to pick it up to index it. I've added it using the link in DNN, I've added it manually at google.com, I've added extra's to verify the site nothing seems to work.

I found in a newsgroup somebody with a similar problem and then it was indicated that his site was not html-compliant. I've tested my dnn site with http://validator.w3.org and it seems that DNN generates invalid html. This could be one of the reasons google is refusing it.

Any help, experience on this would be welcome.

Greetings

Johnny

This is not definetly the reason, simply because ALL dnn sites are currently non XHTML compliant - and most of them get indexed.

It could be:

a) The spider just didn't get to your site yet
b) Your site is generally not SEO friendly... check you meta tags, check your content, etc...

I have compliant DNN sites eg www.obrienit.se  see http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://obrienit.se/ It takes a few tweaks to the core, but it is possible, it's running on an old version (v3.2.2) but you can register to read a tutorial of the main changes. I have produced a validating v4 site over at obrienit.com as well.

Google may say they prefer sites to be valid html, but I don't believe it really makes that much difference. Only a small percentage of sites validate, Google clearly spiders sites regardless.

The most important thing is to get as many inbound links to your site as possible on pages that are already in the index and without the rel="nofollow"  attribute in the link tag that is used to prevent link spam.

I agree with everyone here.  My sites are all indexed very regularly by google and yet my pages do not validate to xhtml standards.

It does take some time for a new site to be initally listed.  Outside links really do help!

Is there a service that can do this? Submit your site and bam, it generates a link to your site? Here's an idea: What about setting up a dozen portals and  when a user registers, they can add links to their site in all 12 of the portals. You now have a dozen inbound links.
