Just a quick question. Would it be possible to use a different data sotrage solution for DNN such as an XML engine? The reason I ask is because I need to know if it would be a huge task or if it would be a case of changing some of the internal makeup of DNN. I have had a look into it, but I figure one of you guys would be better off at answering this question.

Many of you might be thinking why I am wanting to do this, basically, I have been involved in the use/development of a very fast, very intelligent XML Engine and I believe it could be excellent for the backend of DNN instead of good old (yes it is old isn't it) RDBMS which many of you DBA's will disagree with;

Argue with:

9 GIG SQL DB -> ~4G XML DB (According to most developers working on similiar (XML) projects - this is not possible due to the overhead of XML markup - not an issue - the encoding process is even very fast)
No need for indexing (as such)
Unstructured(Google) or Structured (SQL style quries, but it's not XPath either) Searches on data
Blindingly fast search and retrieval: ~5ms for freetext on ~100,000 records (XML Files complex or not) running on a very very very small server - uni processor and 2gb of RAM.

Structured queries aren't that much slower either. If anyone wants more info get in touch with me, I do not work for this company, I have seen the product and I am infinitely impressed with it, the engine is a single executable 4.33MB in size and implements a SOAP interface (web server) aswell so this will give you an idea of the sort of footprint, ease of setup and blinding speed of this system.
