I’ve been looking – and testing – Google AdWord and PPC systems. Google also have a tracking function for the PPC ads – but where to enter it?

The only HTML which is readily available is in the containers – but that can’t be where I should put their code?

Here’s the instructions:

Analytics: Tracking Instructions

Copy the following code block into every webpage you want to track.
Click in the box below to select all code. Copy and paste the code segment into the bottom of your content, immediately before the </body> tag of each page you are planning to track. If you use a common include or template, you can enter it there.

<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-1584030-1";
urchinTracker();
</script>

If you have single portal installation then you can put directly into the default.aspx file that resides in the root directory of your installation.

If you have a shared portal and have only access to your portal then you can put into the skin file.

Remember to log back into google and authenticate your site when you've updated it.

I am using google analytics on all of my sites and I have added the code to a text/html module that is set to display on all pages.  This will not track admin usage or usage on edit pages, but I was not interested in this traffic anyway.

The way I set it up was to input the code in the HTML view, I then modified the settings for the module to not display the container and to show on every page.  It has been working great for all of my sites.

I also use a text/html module with show container = false and show on all pages = true ... its easy and it works.  There are several google analytics modules available, but I havent tried any.
