We are experiencing strange problems with the system log (event log). Sometimes when we try to load it to watch events, it fails to load and complain about XML problems, but it doesnt happen every time and the error messages vary from a simple "Module error" to a full blown:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: There is an error in XML document (1, 1). ---> System.InvalidOperationException: There is an error in XML document (1, 1). ---> System.Xml.XmlException: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1. at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e) at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(String res, String arg) at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseRootLevelWhitespace() at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseDocumentContent() at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Read() at System.Xml.XmlTextReader.Read() at System.Xml.XmlReader.MoveToContent() at Microsoft.Xml.Serialization.GeneratedAssembly.XmlSerializationReaderLogProperties.Read3_ArrayOfAnyType() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(XmlReader xmlReader, String encodingStyle, XmlDeserializationEvents events) at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(XmlReader xmlReader, String encodingStyle) at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(Stream stream) at DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.DBLoggingProvider.DBLoggingProvider.Deserialize(String str) at DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.DBLoggingProvider.DBLoggingProvider.FillLogInfo(IDataReader dr) at DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.DBLoggingProvider.DBLoggingProvider.GetLog(Int32 PageSize, Int32 PageIndex, Int32& TotalRecords) at DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.LogController.GetLog(Int32 PageSize, Int32 PageIndex, Int32& TotalRecords) in D:\eFlex\www\Library\Components\Providers\Logging\LogController.vb:line 101 at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Log.LogViewer.BindData() in D:\eFlex\Production\www\Admin\Logging\LogViewer.ascx.vb:line 128 at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Log.LogViewer.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) in D:\eFlex\Production\www\Admin\Logging\LogViewer.ascx.vb:line 397 --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

But then it starts to work again and so it continues back and forth. Any ideas what to look for here? Could it be performance related?

As far as I know, we have not tampered anything with this ourselve :-)

(Please note that we are running something like DNN 4.0 so it could be a problem that has been fixed)

Turns out that one our our developers didn't put in good XML into the Event Log and that what caused the errors. So it wasn't a bug, but perhaps it shows a need for better error handling.

Off topic: What must I do to become unmoderated?? I've been a loyal member of the DNN community for 4 years now, before this forum even existed, what must I do to proove myself??
