I have been designing sites on DNN for just shy of 2 years now and have cycled through about half a dozen hosts in the process.  I remember scouring the ASP.net forums looking for any information I could find with regard to which was the best bang for the buck for me.  I though I would take the time to provide a little of my experience with a couple of hosts for others that may be in the same situation as I was back then.
Here are the hosts I went through, in order, and my experiences with each.

Godaddy
  • Cheap
  • Fairly reliable
  • Tech support is non-existent for DNN matters
  • Overly restrictive (there were many things that I could never get to work quite right due to permissions)

 WebHost4Life

  • Cheap
  • Lots of space
  • Timely tech support, but not always knowledgeable
  • Recurring problems with site performance and down-time (both site and email)

HostMySite

  • Reasonable rates
  • Phenomenal tech support (24/7/365) phone support ... I never waited more than 5 minutes for live support
  • Consistently reliable
  • Resource constrained ... my sites ran noticeably slower in their shared environment

WebSecureStores

  • Reasonable rates
  • Good and reliable site performance but recurring HELM control panel problems
  • Good tech support, but slow (typically 48-72 hours for responses)
  • Never got a real person on the phone, just voicemail

ServerIntellect

  • Reasonable rates
  • Good tech support (M-F) normal business hours, but not so good for after hour emergencies
  • Reliable, but many IP addresses blocked for US Military Internet users (never could resolve this)
  • Resource contraints prevented some of my sites from working properly (mostly physical memory issues)

DiscountASP

  • Reasonable rates
  • Solid consitent performance
  • Difficult to get timely response for tech support
  • Confusing control panel interface
  • Additional service costs can add up quickly

PowerDNN

  • Resonable rates
  • Noticeably faster performance
  • Great tech support (trouble tickets answered within hours and always able to get a live person on the phone)
  • Knowledgeable tech support (these guys know DNN and even transfered my existing sites over for me for no charge)
  • Reliable service (no down time yet)

Bear in mind that these are my own experiences and I am sure others have differing ones.  You would certainly be helping out your fellow DNN users by posting those experiences here.

The bottom line: I have to say that of all of the hosts I have tried that PowerDNN really stands out as the superior provider for the money even if it was for twice the price (which it isn't!).

Regards,
Tony
