DNN4

Hello,

Ive successfully installed and booted DNN. Ive been playing around with it for all of 15mins and already I have a broken page.
Clicking on the tab for the broken page all i get is an "An error occured" message... which is next to useless.

It appears that in order to delete this broken page i must first be able to load it in order to get the Admin controls at the top of the page. However because its broken i dont get these controls and thus cannot delete it. Classic!

I figured the next most obvious place to delete such a page would be via the Admin>Pages CP. But although i can add and edit pages from this CP i cannot delete any? So what to do??

I gather Im now supposed to go into the back end database and root around in the tables, find the particular record for this page and delete that....... OK fine.... hey this thing is free right.

But shouldn't such a basic rollback feature have been been included in the frontend UI?? Do we seriously expect customers to have to try and root around in databases to fix this kind of thing? What if i miss an entry and leave page fragments all through my Db.

Richard

Hi Richard

You are on the right track using Admin>Pages. If you select to edit the page, then at the bottom of the page settings you have three options "Update", "Cancel" and "Delete". Delete will remove the page.

Best regards

Robin

Hi Richard,

You should be able to delete the page from the Admin>Pages location.  When you go to this page highlight the page you want to delete and then click the edit (pecil) link. At the bottom you should be able the find the delete link (althought it is not as obvious as it could be).

You might also want to try to figure out what the error was in Admin > Log Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Thank you both for your replies. Unfortunately i can no longer access the site i created so as to try your suggestions.
Given the problems i was experiencing i tried to use an Admin wizard re:skinning. I forget the exact name of it but im sure you would know the wizard im referring too.

Anyway after running the wizard the entire site crashed and is now experiencing the same error for each page that i was refferring to in my original post. It seems there must be a bug in this release as ive followed the installation instructions to the letter, have received a big thumbs up from all confirmation dialogs and am simply using the controls DNN provides to try and add a couple of pages to a very simple test/play site.

The whole thing falls over in this class, in the listed method on the italicized/bolded line.

"System.ArgumentException occured in mscorlib.dll but was not handled in code. Addition Info:Value cannot be null."

Thanks

Richard

I would just recreate a fresh project but frankly Ive had enough of DNN for this day.
