I have a major website using 3 or 4 (3rd party) modules, including Catalook. Each time there is a new version of DNN, it seems to break the (3rd party) modules, and we have to wait a few weeks until they release a fix. By that time, 2 or 3 more (core) updates to DNN appear, and they are usually needed fixes. (And it's a never ending cycle) On top of that, it takes about a half a day to upgrade a DNN website with Catalook especially -- since I have to go in and redo the web.config and redo any changes I made, and also test 1000 things.

So is 4.5.1 a good one to upgrade to or should I wait? I knew 4.5.0 was not going to be stable, so I was right on waiting it looks like.

I really wish we could flush out the bugs on major releases. I'd rather have 2 updates a year than 20 that always have bugs and break modules. Or at least an easier way to upgrade!

I agree with a lot of what you've said. I'd like to see a public beta for a couple weeks after the Platinum benefactors testing is completed to nail down the rest of the issues.

Yes the upgrade process does take time, however with a little local testing on a backup environment you can do the upgrade in a fairly streamlined process.  I updated my 5 sites in about 10-15 minutes including the file copy after I practiced an upgrade on a local copy.

Yes, merging the web.config information is a pain, but it is just something that has to be done.  I also like the frequency of the updates to the DNN core and DNN modules as the releases include VERY important security updates, this is especially true in 4.5 which contains in my opinion one of the most important updates ever (as I got burned by the security hole they patched when I was on 4.4.1).

I would agree that the first release doesn't always appear to be the most stable but I also know that the core team is working to improve the process and from what I am reading 4.5.0 was much better than 4.4.0 was, so there are signs of improvement.
