Hi,

I have just completed a (painful) upgrade to DNN 4.5.1 - my permissions for modules got wiped out so I had to fix them - not fun...

Anyway - on some pages (seems random) - the new small Admin bar (with just View and Edit) appears at the top of the page. Registered users do not have edit rights on it, and there is nothing fancy about it.

I compared 2 pages in the DB (the first one shows the bar - consistently for a logged on user), and the second was does not:

Here are the permissions:

1695 505 3 1 NULL 182
1696 505 4 1 NULL 182
1697 505 3 1 NULL -1

1775 525 3 1 NULL 182
1776 525 4 1 NULL 182
1777 525 3 1 NULL -1

(they the same, this is the point)

Here is a page that shows the bar for some reason (clicking on the View/Edit does nothing)

Any one got any ideas please?

Ok, I have set up a user - demouser / demouser1 if you would like to see this.

Someone mentioned that this is because modules on the page have edit rights for registered users.

On this page:

http://www.pokerdiy.com/Games/GamesandEvents/tabid/422/Default.aspx

the demo user does NOT see the bar (and all Registered Users can create/edit events, so they have Edit rights)

but on this page:

http://www.pokerdiy.com/Leagues/PokerLeague/tabid/514/LID/2/Default.aspx

they can edit their league/add users etc so they also have Edit rights but they DO see the bar.

So the question is - IF it is appearing because they have edit rights on a page, why is this? The module takes in an ID and only if it is their league/event do they have the ability to Edit it IF they are in that role, so 99% of the time changing between View and Edit just removes the Help icon - this will totally confuse the user and serves no point.

Does anyone know what should be happening and why this bar is appearing?

Thanks John and Micheal - I've spent the whole day fighting my upgrade so was a bit grumpy ;)

Right - I think this feature is absurd. It's going to confuse the heck out of my poker players (I always think of computer literate people when I say "users", and the members of my site have no interest nor do they care about DNN or my choice of backend technology).

So now on some pages this little bar that does nothing visibly (1 in 20 people might notice the Question mark sign disappear) is going to drop down and impose on their screen.

Not sure how I am going to explain it to them or why they would find it useful, but I would say this definitely needs be a setting or optional. Thanks for the fix John - I will hack my skin.
