From a psychological perspective. if I was a dull script kiddie (or hacker master of the sado universe) who bothered to hack a site, why would I just delete web.config? If I wanted to cause damage I would go the all the way. If I just wanted to prove a point (about whatever it is) I would deface the site, even delete it. So it would be a pretty boring hack... hardly egotistical (the basis of most hacks, corporate sabotage and financial gain come second place I believe). ... totally sounds like hosting provider to me.

Doesnt sound like a hack to me. These days there are numerous types of hackers many with commercial interests (too many) and it doesnt pay what it used to.

We've been just backing up regularly as I never tend to trust host providers to actually have usable incremental backups. DiscountASP have a function within the site control panel that will dump the DB to a file as well as restore one, then we just FTP the rest down. While one can use varied MS tools to do this as well other tools exist that will back up your DB for example (http://www.codeproject.com/vb/net/SQLDBBackup.asp).

There are of course modules? I assume that will also back a site up, perhaps Zip'n it or something.
