Can we tell our hosting companies anything to help with the loading speed problems with DNN, even 4.4 and 4.5.1.  Godaddy sites loaded almost instantly where I am at now, and on another I left the initial load is very slow.  Once you get onto the site it is fine.  I have turned compression on (something I didnt want to do, seems this might cause problems).

My research says this might acutally be something about .net/frameworks, not sure. Any advice I could share with the hosting site, would be appreciated, they seem willing to listen.

initial load time is caused by jit compilation. To speed up this process remove all unused modules and have a machine with sufficient ram.

And if you are the first user accessing the site, it might need to 'start up', so you might want to try keeping your site up by using some keep alive tool which ping's or accesses your site every couple of minutes.

By the way, you can always disable compression again if it causes problems.
I don't see to many problems using it.

I ran into some problems once when I tried to upgrade DNN and compression was on, but in newer versions, this bug is removed I think.

And perhaps there are some specific modules (3rd party) which cannot work with compression so perhaps you should exclude these from compression.

The best bet to keep the inital load time down is to use a keep alive service, but it has to be a service that does an HTTP Get and not just a ping of your site.

I use www.host-tracker.com for my site and it works just fine.  (And is free!)

This is as mentioned above due to JIT compiling with the .NET framework.
