I am fairly new to DNN and am looking for a simple way to

1) Create categories and subcategories (such as Jobs->Current Jobs, Jobs->Archived Jobs)
2) Add text items within each category
3) Display list view of each category or subcategory
4) Display detail view of actual item

Is there an easy way todo this?

You could easily do this with the Help Module.  it allows you to build a hierarchicla tree and assign text items to multiple categories.  there is a short description for your list view and a long description for your detailed view.  Check out the Online Help page to see how it works.

Also has good Import/Export features and is fully integrated to the DNN help so you can do RSS feeds from it as well.
