I have seen strange, inconsistent issues like that with various versions of DNN and IE over time.  Usually I hit F5 or Ctrl-F5 and it comes back up just fine.   However, this has always been from accessing the sites on my server from the internal network, maybe the HTTP protocol doesn't like it too fast.

Also, watch out for DNS changes.  I don't know how your network is setup, but if you depend on external servers for your DNS resolution (by choice or by mistake) and they make changes, it may impact your network.  When in doubt do a IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS and an IPCONFIG /ALL to see what server is doing your resolution.
