Hello folks,

I am having a hard time understanding how to participate in this community. I have tried to post messages but they never reach the forum. While it is understandable that some form of moderation is necessary, how  well does this work when it messages are never posted or the message may take a day or more to make the forum? It seems like a very inefficient communication mechanism.

Is the problem that since every message goes through a moderator there is a terrific queue that backs up? Since none of my messages were posted I couldn't have offended anyone. Should I keep trying as I learn on my own, hoping that I will reach a level of competence that perhaps a message will be posted? As an open source project the community seems to be not very open. Could someone please explain?

Thanks

I rarely see more than 10 messages in the moderation queue and the only time a message sticks in the queue for an extended period is if there is something in the content of the message that is problematic and prevents moderators from using the UI to approve the message. In this case, the message will hang around in the queue until it is forcibly removed or approved using SQL. This is not a frequent event.

Moderation primarily impacts new and infrequent users as regular users will get unmoderated in due course based on their post history. If you search the forums you will see discussions on the pros and cons of moderation, so I won't repeat the issues here. This is definitely an open community and while your initial experience has not given you that impression, I assure you that the extended delay and/or disappearance of messages as you describe is anomalous. I hope you will stick around and get to know our community better.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate that there are various pros and cons depending on one's vantage point. Now that I have a better understanding of this I will plan accordingly.

I am looking forward to learning more about DotNetNuke.

Best Regards,
Greg
