Hi all,

we're just sending a few emails with the core bulk newsetter tool under the admin pages, but I've hit a problem I can't seem to resolve.  Any images we insert in the newsletters don't come through in Outlook 07.  Viewing the source of the received emails, the standard link setup in the newsletter tool has been converted similar to:

<Base Href='www.domain.com'><p><img height="86" width="279" alt="" src="/Portals/12/logo.gif" />

and shows as a missing image.  Has anyone a work around for this?  I'm now not sure if this is an outlook issue, or the way the newsletters are being created as I have a client who is complaining of the same issue.

Also, can anyone suggest a good alternative newsletter module?  one where it's possible to save 'templates' and do include 'mail merge' fields would be smashing!

Thanks heaps,

Reuben.

Looking at the tag you included in your post...

...src="/Portals/12/logo.gif" />

If you are using the rich text editor in DNN; click on the image, then click the 'Inser/Edit Image' button in the toolbar...then type http://www.domain.com in front of the /Portals and the images should show up in the email.  Test one out by sending yourself an email real quick.  You must ensure that the image paths are pointing to the images on your website. (/Portals/12/logo.gif is not going to work in an email, http://www.domain.com/Portals/12/logo.gif is going to work in an email.

As far as other newsletter modules out there I do not have much experience to give you a recommendation.  We are still looking for a good solution also.

Cheers,

Chas

Thanks for your thoughts Chas,

however when you add an image via gallery, the full path is inserted by default (so you don't need to manually edit the source).  When you receive the email you'll see from the code snippet in my first thread that a base url is included, this is supposed to tell outlook what the base/root url for all links is, so the image source should then be from that base url.  In this instance the base url doesn't work.  I'm just wondering if anyone knows a work around that works for office 07 products as I suspect office 07 is no longer working with the poorly formed html created by the newsletter tool (which contains no head/body/html tags according to the html source I receive from test emails).  This then stops all sorts of standard html features from working I.e. we also copy some css styles in the newsletter via html and although you can see these styles in the email source when it's received, the styles aren't actually used/visible in the email.  One could say this is due to the styles not being in the head tags, but previously (pre office 07) this has worked and we've been able to setup all sorts of styles by pasting styles in the source pre sending the newsletter.

Core team (and other Newsletter module dev guys):  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to select a style sheet from your file system for use with newsletter(s) when you send them.  In this one could configure backgrounds & colours etc etc etc, this could then be sent in the head of the newsletter, just a thought).

Anyway, if anyone else has some thoughts they could share I'd truely appreciate it.

Thanks,

Reuben.

I am not sure what you are talking about "add an image via gallery'...

I thought you were talking about using the 'newsletter' in the admin menus...when you add an image by using the 'Insert/Edit Image' (just like the editor used in creating these posts, and in my case the FCK editor) it does not put in the full path by default.  I am not familiar with the base/root url tags.  We were experiencing the same issues and all I did was put the full path (http:// and domain name) to the images and the newsletters we were sending out were/are working for users with outlook.  We also link to the style sheet on the server and use the sites/skins styles for the emails.  Most of our users are using outlook 2003 with a few outlook 2007.
