I agree with both sides...

The issue I see is modules seem to get released infrequently.    Example..  I just started to use the wiki module.   It has not been updated in 3 months.   I realize it is volunteer work but still a release every other month should be doable.

Hi John (M), I think the PS was meant for me! I was under the misapprehension that things like the "What's New " module had actually been dropped. ;-)

Cheers,

John (Primaveranz)

John (Primaveranz),

FYI: "What's New" was a donation from Perpetual Motions, developed in another context, that never had a team and is provided "as is" on the download page.

Brian,

releasing module updates per months is not realistic due to all the overhead for a release. AFAIK, project teams are exected to release 1-2 feature versions per year and bug fix versions as necessary. Do not forget, that many of the "teams" are one man shows in fact, where sometimes the team lead also contributes to the core framework. Of course, many teams would be glad, if there were more communitiy members to join them. Those don't need to be developers - testing and documentation are important tasks as well.

... I just think it would be better to even have dedicated resources on the core team that worked on nothing but extensibility features.

yes, but especially these resources needs experiences from creating modules.

As for the acceptance testing and tracking process put into the official DNN project reviews, that is a good thing to.  All projects should have quality control.  But the problem with promoting that process with the core modules is that it implies that any module that is not "official" does not meet those standards, when in fact a lot of times the unofficial projects are often better.

AFAIK that was the idea for the Module and Skin Review program.

Lastly, it seems that any suggestion of making things better is often construed as an insult to the people who are "officially" volunteering their time.  The original post in this thread uses some wording that I wouldn't have used, but we should all be open to criticism. After all, can you say that you have not heard any criticism about the "other modules" that are available in the developer ecosystem?

sure - I do a lot of criticising myself (core team fellows will acknowledge this) and also accept critics (sorry fo not loving it, but I am not a masochist ;-) ) - especially if it is contructive and provides a solution.
