Hello,

I'm somewhat new to DNN.  I have found a host that I am very happy with the tools they provide, the customer service, and the price.  What I am having trouble determining is the performance.  I have placed my DNN site on their service and honestly the site is painfully slow, not just on first load (ie the asp spin-up).  Given I have a repository on my main page as well as a custom skin that uses tables.  So I am in the process of making optimizations.  So I have a coupel of questions:

  1. How can you determine if the speed issues you are seeing is due to the site or the host?
  2. Can anyone recommend hosts known for their speed when hosting DNN sites?
  3. Any reccomendations when on the topic of speed of a site and hosts, etc...?

Thanks,

Dan

Personally I use 3Essentials and I have been very happy with them http://www.3essentials.com?3eref=13422 (Referral link).  Also, PowerDNN has a very good reputation in the community as they provide a great deal of DNN knowledge and expertise.

As for performance improvements, this is something that is discussed in many areas on this forum but in general...

1.) Ensure that you are using caching, I prefer to use Heavy Caching and keep it in memory
2.) Ensure that you are either using compression or at minimum use the whitespace filter
3.) If you really want to get the site moving you can use a module such as the PageBlaster module from Snapsis (http://www.snapsis.com) to get more performance
4.) I recently changed my site menu from the default menu to a menu using the CSS Nav Menu from Snapsis and noticed a HUGE performance boost as well.
