re: DNN and blog modules
I second the endorsement for the highly configurable Ventrian news Articles- with this caveat:

If blogging is truly important to your application, I would consider looking beyond DNN, and possibly beyond ASP.net for that matter. Not to start a blog v. blog war, but wordpress is unbelievably killer, and much of the blogosphere's sought after functionality begins and ends there.

If you want to play in the blog world- get a blog.
DNN is many things, but it is not (IMHO) a great place to put a major-player blog.

If, on the other hand, you want to "host" a site where others can have their own blog, you could consider Ning...

Instant notifications based on a filter or tags would be very cool for blogs and forums and articles and lots of other stuff ;)

I agree Wordpress is a great blogging platform.definitely has  some great features. There isn't  a DNN module that provides the same functionality or even close, but there could be.
