Hi,

We are presently using DotNetNuke version 3.0.13 and are planning to upgrade to the most current version in about 6 months. We have noticed that our page updates are running a very long time and in many cases are timing out. Many times the page actually updates when checked, but the update page continues to appear hung up. We have run SQL traces on our staging environment that seems to have the same performance issues. It looks as if that there are several stored procedures that are executed for every tab, such as GetTabs, GetTabPermissionByPortal, and UpdateTabOrder. We feel this may be our problem, since our site contains close to 700 tabs. As mentioned earlier, we will be upgrading, but in the mean time, do you have any suggestions for a workaround? We would go ahead with the upgrade now, but we have a lot of custom code that must be dealt with. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Are you aware if the more current versions of DNN are designed in a way that would prevent this issue?

Thanks

I guess my most important question is the latter. Is anyone aware if the more current versions of DNN are designed in a way that would prevent these slow updates?

Unless your custom modules are tapping into User information, you might be ok upgrading to 3.3.7 and, perhaps, even 4.5.5

Also, 700 pages is not too big for DNN. Your problems may lay elsewhere and it is difficult to tell without looking at the site/code (for me, anyway).

One suggestion for sure - check out posts that deal with performance.

Try using SQl profiler to see where your bottlenecks are. I would imagine upgrading will help a lot, due to the numerous performance upgrades since 3.0.13.

DNN 4.4.1 is the version where there were major overhauls to upgrade the performance of DNN sites.  I am quite sure that when you upgrade you will notice large improvements, I know I did.
