I know this might sound funny (or sad), but I think I need to do what I call the piano bar technique and pad my jar (increase the amount of users online) by showing more users than are currently online (7 at the time of posting).  :)  Is there a way to edit the who's online module and add, say, 197 to the number of users currently logged in or visiting? Is it being populated with a token and is there a way to have something like users online + 197?  :)

I think some people might think it's a ghost town and leave right away, rather than look around and see what others are seeing. Perhaps it's spurious correlation, but since I removed the number of members, my membership has gone up tremendously... :)

Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's someplace that he'd rather be

This is an interesting one, I am not sure about the "proper" modification to this, I am sure that you could get it done.

have you downloaded the source version of the module?

Yes, sir. I guess the first step for me would be to look at the lines of code and token that displays who's online, then see where the data are being pulled?

Without knowing how any of this works, I thought perhaps I could simply add a parenthetical to the token line like: ((DNN: Users_online)+100)  or whatever the token is. ;) I also thought that perhaps it's pulling from a table in the db and I could just add a new column that is equal to the users online count + 100, for example, then point the token there...if any of this makes sense. :)

I have no idea what I am doing, but I think I'll look at the source and see if I can at least understand how these data are rendered and then work backwards...

I did a litle initial digging around and found that for the most part, you will have to modify the code, it appears to do queries to get the lists of users, and not necessarily select count(*) or other types of queries.
