Thanks for bumping this back up John.  I was traveling for almost the entire month of November which meant that some of these issues rolled down the list.

I have looked into the issues with the Affiliate program.  We believe there may be a bug in the version of the Marketplace that we are currently running.  We have started on an upgrade but put that on hold for a couple of days pending another release from the vendor that was originally scheduled for last weekend.

I have spent several days pouring through Google analytics, the server web logs, the shopping cart table (this holds all unplaced orders) and the orders table.  I have found that the number of click-thrus is fairly low for most affiliates (this was confirmed by looking at the landing page stats in Google analytics).  I have also found that the conversion rate for click-thrus is also somewhat low.  At this point I am not sure how big an issue the bug might be (it is still not 100% confirmed since it does not impact every click-thru).

So now that I have a fairly good handle on the issues involved, I am working to address each of these issues head-on.  As indicated above, I am in the process of upgrading to a new version to ensure that the affiliate bug is not having any impact on our affiliate program.  We are also working on improving the user experience in the Marketplace to aid them in finding the products they are seeking, and then enabling them to easily complete their order.  Finally, we are working to make the Marketplace more attractive to consumers which should aid in improving the click-thru rate.  We expect to have some major Marketplace announcments in the next couple of weeks that will begin to address many of these areas.

You're welcome Joe.

The way I read your response is that you do not get many affiliate referrals, but of the ones that you do get, there are very few that actually convert to a sale.  That leads me to believe that when an Affiliate sends a referral to the DNN Marketplace that the customer must buy during that session.  I went and looked at the cookie and I think that statement is incorrect because it looks to me like the cooke is set to expire 365 days later.

Can you confirm how the Affiliate program works?  Does an affiliate referral have to result in a sale during that session to be counted?

I decided since I went this far to go ahead and try the checkout process and see if I would get a notification the Affiliate sale.

Not directly related, but you should know that the SSL on the Marketplace is getting a mixed mode message on all secure pages from the Google Analytics link. You should change this:
src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js"

To this:

src="https://ssl.google-analytics.com/urchin.js"

On all pages that are using the SSL protocol.

When I went to use PayPal on the payment step it resulted in a page not found error:

Hitting Retry produces a YSOD at that point, and when I used the back button and finally got back to my cart it was empty, so I started over.

I have to admit that by this time I wasn't too sure about putting in my credit card information, but I plowed on and after clicking through the mixed mode SSL errors I was able to complete the process.

I'll let you know if I receive an Affiliate Sale notice. Or should I expect one?

It may not need to be stated, but I think the SSL and checkout payment process should be a very high priority.  I imagine there are a lot of abandoned carts in that store.

I have been looking into the Affiliate stuff as well for an install I am working on.

Here is what I found in webcode\admin\Vendors\editaffiliates.ascx.vb (Looks wrong to me)

Custom.Add(GetPortalDomainName( _
  PortalSettings.PortalAlias.HTTPAlias, Request) _
  & "/" & glbDefaultPage _
  & "?AffiliateId=" & VendorId.ToString)

You don't want the VendorId here you want the AffiliateId, correct?

I also noticed the issue above with the cookies, if there is a cookie already why not just update the AffiliateId?
