Alrighty then. I recently made the leap from Dreamweaver to VWD. I was pleasantly surprised by the functionality, and usablity of the Master Pags. From what I understand, DNN does not use Master Pages.

Researching a bit, I found a thread that indicated that skins were used as a substitute. I am ok with the idea of skins, but as I understand they provide the look and feel. While this is all well and good, what about navigation and other items that I want to change in bulk?

I am certain that there is an easy answer here. I am guessing this community doesn't change all links by hand every time somebody in marketing needs a change ...

Thanks in advance!

marc -

Skinning allows you to change the appearance of your site. You can pretty much control the entire (look and feel) of your site. This includes changing the menu appearance, but not the actual items in the menu. Pages are added automagically when you create a new page, and can be deleted or hidden from the menu in the Page Settings.

The style of all the links can be manipulated by the skin/css. What the links link to, and other behaviors, is controlled by the module you use. I also wouldn't put much stock in what the guys from marketing say....

menu, search etc. are easily integrated into the skin as Skin Objects, I suggest to read the Skinning Guide, that is available from Documentation page in Resources menu above.

Ok, I will read it.

You have my gratitude sir!

Just for clarity; The actual nav (links, anchors, target=_blank and all) can be incorporated in the skin.

Outstanding. One more quick question before I RTFM ...

Now, if I want a main nav, with a "sub nav" containing "quick links" that change based on the department ... For instance; The main nav will contain all of the links to get anywhere from anywhere, however along the side will be a shorter set of nav links to allow users to quickly get around an a specific area of the site ...

Is this something that is possible? The so-called "quick nav" would change as appropriate corresponding to the top level nodes.

Am I making any sense?

You can have two menu's in the skin, and I'm pretty sure that you can set one of them to show children of the current page. If you cannot, there is a module called "Child Links" from Ventrian that does the same thing.
