Hi All,

I was wondering if someone was doing this:

New user registers on Parent-Portal and in doing so, creates their own child-portal and is the administrator of that child-portal.

That child-portal can be spawned/created based on a pre-defined template and once done, that portal can also accept its own user registrations (but no child-portal spawning/creation though)...no cascading effect, only one level of child portals.

The other option is to allow a registered user on a Parent portal to create (1...n) child portals BUT NOT from the Host/Portals page but another page viewable by users in a given role ...and again, once done, that portal can also accept its own user registrations (but no child-portal spawning/creation though)...blah blah blah....

ANY ideas?

OK Folks, let me elaborate...

Have a new user register on the Parent portal. Now the Admin of that portal can add that user to a given group. Based on group permissions, that user can add ONE (or more based on permissions) child-portal as per a specific pre-defined template to the Parent and also become that child-portal Admin. Note, this should NOT be done from the HOST/Portals menu/page as the user doing this won't have HOST permissions. Once again that portal can also accept its own user registrations (but no child-portal spawning/creation though)...

This will help in a case where a parent portal may need to spawn 100s of child portals but the HOST user (in this case ME!) on the parent just cannot spend time adding these child-portals when each assigned Admin for the INTENDED child portals can add their own portal AND administer said portal too.

I can see many other posibilities too but let's start there...

Cheers!

I'm not positive, but you might be able to this through the Onyatech  Sign Up module.  In the case that you suggested you might need to be creative with the portal templates and a little db work creating the template.  I havent purchased any of the Onyatech modules (I've been heavily looking into the subscription package for last couple of days) but I have head good things about their modules.  I would hit them up also and see if they have a solution for u.

After re-reading your post you might run into a problem with the amount of portals a user can create.

I know that every one has their view on the strengths and weaknesses of DNN, but IMHO the portal registration is one of the items that could be expanded on (sub project??)

On a side note:  To all of that participate in DNN on any level.. Congrats on  500,000 registered users and the release of 4.7.   Keep up the good work

Actually David, the Onyatech guys have a very good print-skin... I'll take a look at what else they're offering now.

To all others, keep any other New-User Defined Child-Portal ideas coming  !!

Thanks
