Hi,

The loading speed of my site http://pijaja.com is quite acceptable. But what I'm concerned is that its response time is slow in comparison with other sites. That means, the stages "Looking up domain name --> Connecting to server ---> Waiting for server ---> Transferring data" take longer than usual. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

I'm using DNN 4.6.2 on a VPS account of EasyCGI. The domain name server is also on EasyCGI.

Thanks,

Duc

There are many improvement options.

To improve startup time uninstall any modules from the Module Definitions that you don't need on the site.

Turn on Performance settings in the Host Settings/Advanced page. You can turn on Caching to help limit the requests to the database.

If all else fails, get a dedicated server/host, generally shared hosting environments (in my experience) aren't the best performing services.

Another item is if the delays are only on first requests after a given time delay I would look into the usage of a keep alive service such as host-tracker.com or Pingdom.com

While there are ways to improve DNN response, you may also need to look at your host environment.  I don't know EasyCGI, but many shared hosts have an operational threshold of number of sites per server that's based on a certain percentage being active at any one time.  Getting your host to move your site to a less busy server might help.  Switching to a host with lower loads may help.  Once you've tuned DNN, you might need to talk to your hosting service.

I had the same problem. The reason is that the application domain times out every 20 mins if there is no activity, the first request after the timeout can force a recompile and reload of cache. Changing some settings in the machine.config file will solve the problem; unfortunately for me my hosting provider would not allow me to make this change. I found these utilities to be useful. http://www.spikesolutions.net/ViewSolution.aspx?ID=c2b7edc0-5de1-4064-a432-05f6eded3b82 http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?r=034110633f&tabid=242&PackageID=5575 Essentially it "Pings" my home page every few mins so the application domain does not time out. The utility can also be configured to ping more than one page so that auxiliary pages are fast too.
