Hey All,

Just an observation concerning ftp. (Nothing to do with DNN. )

Since getting hooked up with DNN and having to upload the installs to a web server I've noticed on my side anyway that ftp never uploads all the files from my unzip folder to the web site without failures. I cannot think of any session where I was able to upload the entire install without errors. I have used different ftp programs and also just recently changed my ISP. Prior to June 07,  I was living in Belgium and observed the same problems as I have in the states. My current method of upload is to upload the root folders one at a time .ie Admin, bin, controls. There is no guarantee doing it this way but it seems to produce less failures.

This can be caused by many conditions, not the least of which is marginal or overloaded network resources on either end, or in between.  FTP is not an elegant protocol, it's just basic and universal.  In situations such as yours, often the solution is exactly what you found, upload smaller batches.

I use the EXACT same process.

The worst part is that when you don't break it out you still don't always get an error so you THINK it went ok but it didnt

At least I'm not alone. I was getting frustrated thinking that my stuff was the issue. It's good to have Kin!

Perhaps a checkvalue that lets you know if the web folder contains the correct number of files and byte size of a default installation.

The part that is most irritating is when you've copied (or thought you did) all the files over and then accessed the site only to have the install blow up because of missing files. If it hangs before the DB is contructed then it's not too bad but having the DB get boogered up so that  you can't just re-run really torques me.

Thanks, I needed that!
