We are in the process of changing our portal from SharePoint 2001 to DNN 4.6x.

I have the files organized in folder on the SPS site and am trying to upload them to the DNN site.

I have only been able to upload files with folders as *.zip files but there is a file limit in the zip file when uploading. The error I received was with a zip file that had 250+.

In the end I’m going to need to upload around 10,000 files to the site. The existing file manager is not up to the task. So, my question is what’s the best method to upload a large number of files to the DNN site?

I’ve noticed that once you’ve uploaded the files to the site, that the way to link to the files is very limiting. It seems the drop down to show you folders on your site is a fixed width and won’t show subfolders if you have too many layers. Are there modules that can display files on the site in a different manner?

Also, how does indexing work on a DNN site? I haven’t seen any controls of this.

Thanks
Michael Burns

What kind of documents are they and do they have to be in the file manager?  If you just need them available, you could keep them in your own file structure and use some code to traverse the file structure to display the filenames with links.

They range primarly MS Office documetns with PDF files. I'm trying to use the file manager but it just doesn't seem to be the best solution with this many documents. If we keep them on a seperate server, can DNN index that server?

Thanks

If you want to access them via the file manage and the DNN file selection boxes, I would do the following.

1.) Manually FTP the files up
2.) Sync the file manager (That could take some time with that many files)
3.) Modify the core UrlControl to widen the folder drop down list

So, how does indexing work on the site? Also, can you index from a seperate server? Or can this be done by a seperate module?

Thanks
