DNN helped me to get my membership site up and running.  It is easy to add new content.  BUT...it is extremely difficult to find quality modules for additional things I want to do.

When I do a search I can find plenty of programs for PHP that sound like the ideal solution but it is very hard to find anything that will integrate with my DNN site.

An example is a good affiliate program.  YOu can find 20 - 30 for PHP but you can't find anything that will work with DNN -- well there is one but it will not integrate with my existing DNN module.

Why is DNN so far behind PHP when it comes to quality software products??

I can't imagine what a hassle it would be but maybe I will have to move the whole site over to Joomla so I can remain a cutting edge web site.  Unless there is better software available, I'm afraid I will fall further and further behind.  It is scary to think about 1-2  years down the road when I can't keep up with the competition because they have access to new and cutting edge affordable software programs because they are using PHP.

I hope some of the software developers with DNN are keeping up with what PHP is doing.  If not, DNN will not be able to keep up.

Look at this -- http://www.idevdirect.com/idevaffiliate.php  it is just ONE example!

Hi,

This is not module but software for web server  – it is not made to fit directly in any framework as Dotnetnuke. You can run this software on same server as dnn installation also. Like for php you have even more advanced components, software, etc for asp.net.

Modules for dotnetnuke are products for specific environment and you cannot compare these products at all.

Anyway - you have a lot quality modules for DNN only also, see snowcvered and other sites.

Kind regards,

Primoz

I have heard this argument many times before, but I can say that the poster above makes a very valid point.  A simple PHP script that just runs is much different than a pluggable module that works with a specific framework, regardless of if it is DotNetNuke, Sharepoint, CommunityServer or another product.

I would agree that there is a quality issue among software development firms out there, but being a responsible consumer can typically isolate these vendors quite quickly..
