Hi Steve,
You need to connect to the server via WebDAV, then you can freely create and edit the skin files and view the changes immediately in a browser. Frontpage used the FP server extensions for managing the connection, but with EW you really need to use WebDav to get similar results.

It can be a bit of a fiddle getting WebDav working on IIS7 and I advise going over to the iis.net forums to get help. One tip from me - If you have been messing with it quite a bit and it just won't work, go through all the web.configs from the server root down to your DNN app and check that you haven't got conflicting WebDav configurations. The iis gui is better at creating web.config entries than it is at removing them.

Regards,
Rob

Robax,
Except for the files handling Is there any advantage in using FP for skins?
Seems to me that Filezilla and Notepad++ are all that is needed.

Hi Yehuda,

It's really just about having a useful work environment. Having Expression Web hooked up to the server makes for a fast and productive workspace. I'm more interested in design than code and intellisense alone must have saved me years of reading books that I just don't want to read.

Or in a similar vein...  S.Walker could have created DNN in notepad, but Visual Studio has no doubt sped the process up immensely.

But if notepad works, then I think that's fine too.

Regards
Rob

Thank you Rob,
intellisense is a very good thing. I did not realize that Expression will provide that (I should have though)
I’ll check it out.
Thank you again,
Yehuda
