Hi all,

I have modified my labelcontrol.ascx to my tastes and that is all fine and good... but: I find that a lot of labels in DNN do not actually use that control for the labels.

To demonstrate what I mean:

  1. In file: controls/labelcontrol.ascx
  2. Change help.gif in line 4 to action.gif
  3. Load up Admin, Site Settings and confirm that the help icon has changed for the labels.
  4. Now click on your username to view your profile page and you'll see it has not changed.

There is one other file that is nearly identical to labelcontrol.ascx and that is controls/helpbuttoncontrol.ascx. However I have tested that and it is not the one... if anyone knows what that file provides labels for, please let me know.

And so the main question is.. where is the label control for certain pages such as the user profile? I just can't seem to find it.

Thanks for any assistance with this.

Rob

I am not sure, if there is a control or just a label (and eventually an image aside)

I think Sebastian is right about the label.

If I remember correctly, pages such as the one you mention use the PropertyEditor control (the name is something like that), which is a control that dynamically generates the ASP.Net controls per the content that is loaded into it.  It has been a long time since I looked at that portion of the source though.  So I do not remember off the top of my head what the internal controls are.  However, if the person who created it was trying to be safe, they would have used only .Net controls (labels), and not user controls (labelcontrol.ascx).

Thanks for the replies,

I think I understand from that that DNN uses more than one method for handling the help gifs with their tooltips that go alongside labels, and that the one I'm looking for is probably stuck inside a dll in the bin for security reasons. Is that the basic situation?

Regards,
Rob

So far, I have been able to simply change the URL path that the labelcontrol.ascx file points to.  I have not yet experienced the inconcsisiencies that you have described.  However, I am likely on a lower version of DNN than you are.  (4.05.03)
