At this point in time I honestly presume that these issues are well known to the administrators of the DNN site and the developers of the Forums module and that they are working on their resolution, but just in case, I want to post some comments because since this site was updated to 4.6.2 I have experienced a multitude of problems with the forums.  These problems are not only annoying but they are also really bad PR for DNN.  I wouldn't show this site to a prospective client for fear of long waits for content to refresh, lockups, or error messages.

By the way, I just had an error, about 2:30 EST, that read:

A critical error has occurred.
Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value

Another problem that I think has been documented is the lack of notification emails for responses to posts.

Again, I know these problems will be worked out but please let us know what is going on.  Also, IMHO, these issues should be resolved in this version of DNN before pushing the next version out the door.  There has been a lot of new stuff put out lately by the core and I think its time to just make things stable before continuing with the feature creep in the core.

Carlos

PS
Please don't tell me how hard the Core Team works, I know that and I also appreciate it.  Don't ask me what I'm going to do to solve the problems either, that is beyond my reach.  I do my part for DNN being an evangelist for it in the trenches and contributing in the forums as time permits.

Carlos,

I agree with you 100% that these forum issues, are MAJOR issues that need to be resolved.  I know that when the DotNetNuke.com forums don't work correctly people go to other locations as well as potentially other products because of the mentality that if they can't get it right who can.

I do know that the following items are known issues, based on discussions in other threads here on the forum (I'm not a member of the core or forum teams but I do spend a fair amount of time here on the forums...)

Post Notifications - These currently are ONLY working if you subscribe to a forum, however, you also receive notifications of your own posts.  Thread specific notifications are currently not processed due to a bug in the notification queries not checking for a notification flag.

Post Notification Checkbox - If you check the box to "Notify me of new comments" on a specific thread, the setting doesn't appear to save, however, if you try to save it again you get an error about the violation of a data constraint

Moderation - Currently even if you are set to trusted you are being notified that the post must be approved, however, it is posting right away.  Also it now appears that moderated users are posting directly to the forums as well

Now, there is one other issue that I am not sure what is causing it, but there are posts here recently that are breaking the entire display of a forum.  i can't view the announce it forum right now because of it and a few others.....but I haven't heard any official commentary on this one.

Hi,

I haven't been able to create a new post on the form for the last 8 hours or so.  When I hit New Thread I get a message 'Add/Edit post' An error has occurred, Add/Edit post is currently unavailable.

Clearly, adding a reply doesn't suffer the same.

I've seen new posts in the period I've been unable to post - Am I alone?

Announce It forum is broken for me in both FF and IE7 although I see other people have been able to post.

Chat About It forum works but format is messed up. I would say that someone knows about this as all the forums were like the Announce It forum a day or so ago.  One other thing I have noticed is that when the total number of visitors gets around 1000 or so you might as well come back some other time because the entire site is going to be unuseably slow.  500 - 800 visitor range seems to work ok although a bit slower than <500 visitors range

I would say there are a couple of issues with new forums module which is ok since it is new - still working on the bugs. The speed issue, however, has been a problem for some time.  Hosting must be a problem.

Greg
