another timeout error with the event viewer

You can also do the following to keep that last 100 records, but the query can take a few minutes to run and may be a little taxing on the DB. 

DELETE FROM EventLog
WHERE  LogGUID NOT IN
          (SELECT     TOP 100 LogGUID
            FROM          EventLog
            ORDER BY LogCreateDate DESC)

OR Just delete by everything before a certain day

DELETE
FROM          EventLog
WHERE LogCreateDate < '2008-10-02'
