I'm fine with it the way it is, given that the text content of all my portals adds up to hardly anything, however I have taken care not to enable the database file storage options that some modules allow, and I have also removed the ability for people with file manager access to select the database save option for files, assuming that if those things are selected then the db is going to grow greatly in size.

What I'm getting at is that there is a risk that a portal could get used in a such a way that the db fills up with files that would otherwise have been in the file system.... and then I guess there would be the issue suggested in the thread?

Rob,

since secure database folders can only be created by admins and they are the only ones, hwo can grant edit permission, I do not see your issue.

Sebastian,

I believe the point that Rob is getting at is that if you give a users admin access to a site and set a file size limit for the portal, they could just use the secure database folders to get around the limit.

Now, I am not sure if this is correct, since secure database folders are actually completed via the File Manager do they get counted in the overall size of the file system?

Additionally regarding the size of the database, that can be a concern as you can have modules that create a LOT of database content, such as Forums, and Blogs.  I personally limit users by making those modules as premium as others have mentioned trying to limit db size is very resource intensive and could bring down a site for un needed reasons.

Well, I haven't got any experience in running DNN Portals with lots of users. Right now I'm planning to do so. For example, if I'm gonna have like 1000 users in one DNN portal, do you think it's enough to reserve around 3MB for each users? Would it accomodate the situation where users will be posting like crazy? Or is 3MB for each users is too much? Should I reserve like 1MB? I was just curious if there's any way to precisely calculate each portal usage (down to each module usage) in the database maybe. I think it would be very useful for companies interesting in running DNN Hosting in single DNN portal. Thanks a lot by the way =)
