What DotNetNuke needs is a better way to upgrade modules on an existing installation.

1  Downloading from DotNetNuke, uploading or installing...   for every module you want to update.

2  Why can't there be an automatic upgrade.. click a link in Module Defs and done.   That's it.

3  Also, I know this has been brought up before..   but a way to download all the latest modules at once...  vs 22 clicks, saves, etc.

4.  If you install modules using the Available Modules function, why do the modules remain after installation?

Another problem is once you download the latest DotNetNuke install, you are out of date with the modules.

Why are the module updates not added to the core download so you are up to date when you download / install?

brian,

there are several options you are obviously not aware of:

  • use install package of DotNetNuke (instead of upgrade) to get latest versions of all modules preinstalled
  • preinstalled modules (i.e. module packages renamed to .resources and placed inside /install/module folder) can be easily installed by activation a check box and click install in module definitions
  • if you need to mass update any module you can place all .zip packages inside /install/module before an upgrade or explicitely call /install/install.aspx?mode=installresources to install all in a bunch
  • DNN 5 will bring a new installer for all kind of packages, see preview in the blog of Charles Nurse
