Looking for a way to let the user know the DNN site is temporarily down. Is there any exisiting DNN functionality to support this.

Thanks you for your time.

This works well:

  1. Create a file named app_offline.htm
  2. Fill it up with your logo, contact email and an offline or outage message
  3. Put it in your portal root
  4. Browse the site and see the result

I keep the file there all the time and just add a dash or two after the name to disable it again.

As Rob mentioned the app_offline.htm file is the best way to go.  Just so you know what that file does is it actually shuts down ALL .NET processing on the server, so no .aspx pages will be rendered.  If you are looking to use this file to allow an upgrade to occur, you must remove the file before the upgrade process can be started!
