Four days ago I posted a query about Captcha not working on the Configure It forum, I've had 25 views but no comments. Perhaps there are more eyes over here. So here it is again...

"I have just installed and am testing 4.8.0.

I selected User Registration: Private under Admin>Site Settings>Advanced Settings>Security Settings, and then Use Captcha for Login and Use Captcha for Registration under Admin>Security Roles>User Settings>User Account Settings. But nothing happened!

I have found some threads on Captcha not working on the Feedback module in 4.7.

Is this a known issue or is it just me?"

Well I've tested Captch with 4.8.1 and it is still not working.

My next question for the Chat About It forum is: how long should moderators leave threads unanswered  that might highlight bugs?

Regards

Geoffrey

Moderator answer: We do not delete threads, if a thread get's no answers it still remains there (as someone searching at a later point may find it and add to the thread/answer the question). I was not aware of any captcha errors (e.g. I can see the captcha in operation on dotnetnuke.com as it's required for commenting on blog posts). If you believe this is an error, please log it at the dotnetnuke public issuelog @ http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Issues.aspx?pi=23&m=1 .If I get a chance I'll take a look into this this weekend, but I recommend you check your web.config and ensure both of the following are there:

<add name="CaptchaHandler" path="*.captcha.aspx" verb="*" type="DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.CaptchaHandler, DotNetNuke" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv2.0" />

and

   <!-- This is for CAPTCHA support -->
   <add verb="*" path="*.captcha.aspx" type="DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.CaptchaHandler, DotNetNuke" />

Thank you Cathal for the quick response. Yes, both those lines are present in the web config.

I am experiencing this problem on clean installs of 4.8.0 and 4.8.1 to Visual Web Developer (2005) in both Explorer and Firefox coming in on two laptops, and on a PowerDNN hosted 4.8.0 site.

So I will log it on the public issue log. Please let me know if you reproduce the problem.

Regards

Geoffrey

Closure: Having logged this error, it was confirmed that Captcha is not working on login (though it is on registration).
