There's really no doubt that you should plan on chaning to another host. Transaction logs are one of those hidden extras that come with running a DNN portal and you really need a good control panel.

Well here is the reply from godaddy about shrinking the database. Tell me what you think. I think it is BS.

Unfortunately we are unable to make custom configurations to the database setup such as setting the database to "simple", in addition we will not be able to run the "DBCC SHRINKDATABASE" command on your behalf within the shared hosting environment. Also note that the transaction log is currently not configured to truncate upon the database being backed up. If you require these custom configurations for your MSSQL database you may want to look into a dedicated server as this appears as though it will best suit your database needs.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, I have my problem solved too. But it takes a lit bit longer them i thought. The logs are limited (trucated by them i presume) to 100MB. They have to pass the problem to a higher level and yesterday I receive a message saying that the problem is solved. And it is. The worst issue is what you refer there's no way to perform a Shrink or any other system command and probably I will get the problem soon! Thanks anyway for your help.

Is there a way to configure the scheduler to run the shrink command (in the sql dnn page) more often (if the default does any at all….) to avoid this issue?

I have direct access to all my clients DB (Enterprise Manager) but I will be happier if this procedure could have been done on a regular automatic basis.

Also, does anyone know what part of the db activity is responsible for this db bloating? I tried to figure it out for no avail.

Unfortunately with godaddy they don't give you permissions to run this so I don't think I would be able to shedule it myself.

I'm pretty sure this was the the chain of events that did it to me:

Set up DNN Refresh to ping the home page every ten minutes.

It whacked my site log in a big way.

Which in turn filled my transaction log.

I was then denied access to log-in.

They cleared my transaction log so I immediately trunincated my site log (and quit pinging).

Viola 30% unallocated space in my database.

The rest is history

Bummer for me.
