Hi, We're in the process of setting up our own server (running SBS 2003), and I've noticed this thing called companyweb that comes with it. It looks on the surface like a reasonably capable (perhaps basic) framework for an intranet.

How does it stack up against DNN? My plan to-date has been to set up DNN as our intranet (with AD access enabled and Bring2Mind's DMX Pro, along with other modules), but I think I'm going to have a hard time justifying it when companyweb is looked at by others in the business.

Are people using this instead of DNN? If not, what convinced you to use DNN instead? Any thoughts on pros and cons, either way?

Company Web is made with Windows SharePoint Services (WSS), which is part of SBS 2003. It depends on your companies requirements, whether DNN or WSS better suits your needs, e.g. there are not thousands of of free modules for WSS.

Hi Jeff,

I'm working on an article that discusses using DNN for this type of application. IMO DNN does have some advantages over WSS. The most important IMO is the extension architecture. The ease of extending DNN + the ease of installing these extensions (very important) make DNN a good candidate for situations where you can expect to have to 'tune' a custom application continuously. If all the client wants is plain vanilla WSS, and money is not the issue, then go for that.

My 2cts,

Peter
