I have an existing ColdFusion site that has virtually all pages in a database structure. Is there a way to import that existing site to the DNN environment?

It doesn't hurt to ask, but no there is not any facillity to do an import of a ColdFusion site.

Copy & Paste may be the best way.

Thanks.

The existing sites are a ColdFusion site with everything in a database. There are about 6,000 pages, and they are edited by a number of people and change daily, so some type of automated import process is almost certainly required.

1) Is there any reason to think that there may be a way to create an automated process to convert the present database struccture to the structure use by DNN?

2) Is there any technical reference that might provide me with the structure of the DNN databse?

If you are a programmer and don't mind digging in then you should be able to create some data transfers that will move your content over.

There are some ERD's here:

I would also recommend looking into some of the commercial modules for content management before you move all your content into the simple text/html module tables.

For content migration, you might want to check out Windows Live Writer (WLW) and 3rd party middle ware such as MetaPost http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=9870 or digMeata http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=9580.  These module allow you to update upload content into DNN using WLW desktop appliation.  The MetaPost has a free community edition http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=9662.  You can WLW to publish to Text/HTML, Blog, News Articles and FAQs.

If you have highly customized database driven appl in CF, find 3rd party modules from Snowcovered or do it yourself.

During migration, you might need to let users to access the old CF and new DNN using the existing credential in the current CF appl.  Check out Single Sign On module http://opensource.indyneinc.com/home/Products/SsoXPFree/tabid/99/Default.aspx.
