I know this has been the subject of many posts, however most that I have come across seem to be a year or two old. I would just like to see where the latest advise is.

DNN is great, my only issue is still the initial page load - fully refreshed with cache cleared, my hosting account and portals take about 6 seconds on the first load.

I am on a shared hosting account, I have the free pageblaster loaded, I have the Xepient Keep Alive loaded (this made a huge difference), with a 19 second time delay, heavy caching and have uninstalled any modules that I don't think will be required.

I occassionally come across a DNN site that has an initial load of 1-2 seconds - how is this achieveable?

One of my portals is here: hhwtravel.com

Am I asking too much (Joomla seems to be able to easily achieve 1-2 second page loads, but isn't as good imho)

Matt

6 seconds is not too bad but it is possible to get better.

Have you checked out YSlow for FireBug yet?  It has lots of good recommendations.

A nice light CSS Menu also helps.
