Remember the good-ole days when you could post your message in 1 big DNN forum and have a TON of people read over and comment on your posting?  Yes, I know, it is a fading memory...

Could somebody look into the viability of making 1, fat, general forum?  The reason I ask is because, ever since the extreme categorization of forums was created on DNN.com, forum activity is extremely down, as it is a hinderance to the general population to search all forums just to provide help to the people.  Instead of going to 1 forum and reading/responding to requests.. you now must go through hoops and stairways to read all requests on all forums.

Bottom line - forums are meant for community participation.  The current forum scheme does a lot to hinder this.

Thoughts?  Opinions?

One could also say that by having categories that people can more logically find and discuss the questions that they have with people who might have the most insight into that particular area.

Can there be TOO MUCH categorization,    yes.  But IMHO, it is nice to have some more separation of posts.

There's 22.000+ posts already in this forum and the DNN forums at ASP.NET have currently 90.000+ It's only been a few months Forums were deployed here and only a few weeks since it was announced that there would be a migration (or rather a freeze) from ASP.NET. I doubt activity has slowed down here, where it has been noticeable is at asp.net where I am a moderator.

Categorization is always an area that can be optimized, specially in forums for an app that keeps changing. I personally think the separation of projects into their own forums is a good thing. Being used to the asp.net forums categories sure does play a part in this. I think I can center my efforts on subscribing only to those forums I find useful and those where I can help.  It was not posssible to subscribe to the general at asp.net without being inundated.

The general forums category here is better too at separating the levels of users as well as giving a sense of specialization.

I think some folks are watching the videos and "getting it".  I like this forum format because I spend alot less time looking for answers by module or issue vs reading every post in the old forums.  I have learned alot from both.  Categories get  my vote.
