I am new to DNN and skinning, and in my first experience working with tweaking a skin, I made changes to the html & CSS of a skin... using only left and right panes.  I also had tried to delete some of the earlier, test skins that I had developed. After I uploaded the new skin (whilst logged in as host) the drop down menu items for admin and host appear, but none of the pages come up.  I suspect the content of these pages is all in the content pane, which I ignorantly removed from the html, hence nothing appears in those pages.

Since I would like to revert to the DNN-Blue default skin, but can't get to the menu to do so, I'm wondering:
 (1) how I might be able to do this easily without the page interface, and
 (2) can I somehow affect the parent's skin via the child?

When I try to login to the child sites, i receive the message:

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Please help, I feel very discouraged by DNN at this point, and I can't seem to get a response from the Skinning or General Forums...

Thanks!

Options:

1) Login to the database and go to the skins table.  Delete any entries in this table and the application will default back to the blue skin.  You might have to clear the cache after you delete the records.

2) Edit the skin and add back the contentpane section.  You can look at the default skin for an example of what this section should look like.  You can then reinstall the skin by copying the updated files to the either the portals\_default (host) or portals\0 (default protal).

Thanks for your help. I've uploaded a modified/corrected skin that now includes the content pane, and I'm at least able to view all the pages properly. I am, however, still getting the same error message whenever I try to login to the portal, or any children sites. I've even added a blank line to the end of my web.config file to hopefully reset the app, but I still get the same login error message.

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Still no go. Made the change to the web.config and I get the same message at the portal level and in all the children when I try to login. My site(s) are hosted on GoDaddy, and I'm wondering whether they might have changed some configs since I had been in conversation with them regarding upgrading to DNN 4.8 from 4.7. They said they would have to wipe all my apps out because they would build a new database. I backed up my databases, and all  apps are still out-of-commission. Any suggestions?

Thanks... and growing weary of it all...
