Hello,

I am new to DotNetNuke and so far I am quite impressed with it. However I need your help in deciding whether to use it for a project I am undertaking. The project involves developing a store of information for a marketing organisation, namely storing clients, contacts, events to which contacts are invited to and publications to which they have subscribed to. In addition, each category of information has to be exported to Excel for mail merging and analysis. The data entry forms for clients and contacts should be multipage to allow users to enter different categories of related information in one go. I need help in deciding whether to use DotNetNuke and develop custom modules for what is not there or just do it from scratch. Please advise.

Thanks.

As DotNetnuke comes with alot of the base site functionality you will need (users, roles, site layout and content), I don't see any reason not to use it.

For the most part, the development framework for creating modules will save you time.

There are probably some free and commercial modules out there that will fit your needs, with little or no modification.

For the most part (depending on the modules you use), your data could be easily portable to other platforms (or useable by other systems).

Hi,

1. It certainly saves lot of development time by using DNN.

2. It is better to develop custom module for core business logic to meet your requirements. However, You can still buy module close to it with source code and tinkering it may also work, if you are experienced in custom modules.

just my 2 cents.
