I'm new to dotnetnuke and in fact I just installed dotnetnuke today which came free with a hosting account at GoDaddy.

My question is, if I wanted to develop a site like FaceBook.com or Friendster.com (i.e. a networking site), is it advisable to start of with the dotnetnuke framework or would it be better to develop it from scratch (ASP .NET and SQl Server 2000)? I guess I am trying to find out if dotnetnuke would be my friend or would it be an obstacle for my needs for a networking type of website?

Also, if anybody could point me out to some nice and free dotnetnuke skins that would be great.  I found very few on the web.

Thanks.

I'm wracking my brain trying to think of a scenario in which using DNN would be a hinderance and am coming up blank.  Well, I take that back.  If you already have implementations of all the features you need so that you can just paste together code you've already written, then it might be easier to build it yourself so as to avoid having to learn how to write DNN modules and skins.  Otherwise, DNN would be an ideal framework to build upon.  It and it's core modules can probably handle most of the features you need.  If you need some feature not covered by the core you can likely find it in a third party module, free or almost free.  If in the unlikely event you can't find a module that suits your needs creating your own isn't horribly difficult if you follow the various tutorials that are out there.
