Just a quicking warning to everyone out there that PowerDNN are modifying DNN installations without the owners permission.

PowerDNN are inserting affiliate links into a clean version of DNN without our consent:

  1. PowerDNN create a new "Buy DNN Stuff" link in the admin menu. When you click on this link it goes to this url:  http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?r=Tony.Valenti@MobileNow.cc
  2. PowerDNN modify the "Solutions Explorer" link. When you click on this link it also goes to this url:  http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?r=Tony.Valenti@MobileNow.cc

See these pictures:

THIS IS POWERDNN'S FIRST RESPONSE:

"Hi,

Our tool optimizes and modifies DNN to best run on our servers, with the highest levels of security. If you wish for us to not modify it, you are free to migrate the site yourself, and we will gladly do that and turn off the optimizer for you.

We are sorry for any misunderstanding when it comes to using our software to migrate your site to our hosted servers.

Always glad to help,
Jake"

Can anyone recommend a decent dedicated server host that will not modify our DNN installations with affiliate links?

What does everyone else in the community this about this - would it annoy you if someone modified a clean install of DNN on your server?

Adski,

Again, sorry about the confusion.  We do have a fresh installation that has a couple different skins to choose from including DNN Blue as well as some information about some of our other services and partnerships such as DNNCreative.  You are always free to take any of it out, similar to how most people will take out the images in the standard DNN installation.  In terms of the site optmizer, it actually runs on the server and no core code is modified, so you are always able to run your DNN site in any environment with any selection of modules and skins always maintaining upgradeability. We use software to push new versions of Dotnetnuke to our servers running our Control Suite tools, we always give you the opportunity to request that you get updated versions of the package from source force.  We are very flexible with it and even have customers that are having us deploy their own "fresh install" to their customers.  If you open up a ticket with us and make the request we can ensure that your install packages are what you need.  Thanks.

Frankly, PowerDNN dropped on my recommendation list due to recent issues, and I'm not surprised they do this.  Though I am dissapointed.

Did PowerDNN disclose to you about their affiliate account setup in your site?

Not long ago, I saw another post with proof that they auto injected script into customer sites so that google search can identify the sites linked to PowerDNN somehow.

As with the comment that the above poster made, I am not surprised by this fact, and I will not recommend PowerDNN to any clients of mine.

I personally host with 3Essentials and have had a VERY positive experience with them.  (There is an affiliate link in my signature).  Their support is good, however, they are NOT DNN experts, but can help with some items when needed.
